105th Anniversary Year
1908 – 2013
TWC Centennial Commemoration
Dear Members and friends of The Tokyo Women’s Club
Our club, or TWC, was founded in 1908 by Dr. Marie Stopes, a British scholar who came to Japan and worked as research fellow at Tokyo University.
Since then it has established itself as a respected and ongoing women’s organization with orientation towards promotion of culture, social welfare and international understanding, through holding monthly meeting based on these concepts.
To celebrate the 105th anniversary of the foundation of TWC in 2013, we are preparing a gala luncheon, where, alongside a full course luncheon, a new style modern music performance will be given by The “Ryoma Quartet”, which is a group of four young outstanding artists with a Japanese drum Tsuzumi, a Japanese bamboo flute Shino-Bue , a Tsugaru Shamisen and a Violin. They are fabulous musicians and they deliver powerful
There will be a door prize, and we are preparing a number of wonderful prizes for the day.
Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Marie Stopes International Central London, and also towards the education of the children of the Soma city firefighters who lost their lives in the course of rescue effort during the earthquake in March 2011. Another part of the proceeds will go to help activities of some worthy women- related societies.
We are confident that, with your cooperation in more way than one, the anniversary will prove to be a pleasurable and meaningful event, and we hope many of you will come and join us there, bringing with you as many of your friends who might be interested as guests.
